Distributing the final show…

After the show has been fully edited and finalised it will ready to be aired on OHTV on sky channel 199. This will be a great moment for me as this will be the first time my work will be aired on TV. It would be a great feeling knowing my work is being sent to space and back and then being caught through a satellite dish and being show on a 42inch 1080p HD TV, I will feel accomplishment and achievement seeing director besides my name.

There is also talks going on between Jamal and Channel 5 to get the next series on air on terrestrial TV. This is a great opportunity and could lead to some great things if things progress.

Evaluation of filming day

The sound we received from the DJ was not the best of quality and it was not fully compatible with FCP so we had to convert it which made the sound even worse. Next time ill make sure he set his peaking at -6db and to hold back on equalisers

The presenter was okay but she could have been better, I believe she needs more training as a presenter. After seeing her in action i remembered last year when i was on documentary production with Ken and i was the presenter for the documentary.

I felt i directed well as people listened and took on my advise. I worked well under pressure and was able to keep my cool. I had a large responsibility riding on my shoulders. The show must be edited and aired at a high standard otherwise the big guys wont be happy.

The equipment was heavy, we had to be causious not to loose any.  We had limited space in the mini van to be comfortable for such a long journey. So next time i will not compromise comfort for my crews welfare.

I learnt a lot today about my self. I found that directing came to me naturally. At first i was a little nervous as i had a big responsibility to deliver a good outcome on the show as there was a lot of money riding on this. I ended up feeling so comfortable in my role i now seriously consider it as a career option. I think it is suitable to my expertise and skills now that i have production experience on such a large scale project.

Skills i have developed and gained evidence for relating to a directors position:

1) I have learnt how to delegate roles to crew members

2) experience in organising  and developing pre production and post production  processes

3) Able to maintain and develop contacts in the chosen area of practice

4) Successfully aired a Television show to a wider population in three continents, Africa, Europe and America; appropriate to the area id practice.

5) Worked efficiently and naturally with new and complex technologies; Cannon Z1, Z5, 5D, dedo lights, 3 memory card recording units for Z1,Tripods, the glidetrack being the newest one we used.

Overall the filming day went well and we was able to capture ALOT of footage over a space of 4 hours for 5 different cameras. Now it was on to the monmouth task of editing the 4 shows.

The before and after editing…

Some of the footage was really bad as it had a bad blue hue to it which was look grim and killing the mood of the show. To make sure the show was up to par with other TV shows it had to be white balanced properly.

Side By Side

This was the footage before, it was blue and the colours looked unnatural and cold…

This was the footage after, it was really appealing and a little warmer which made the big difference in the show.

Having a well balanced picture is important as you want to recreate reality and in reality colours are natural looking and pleasing to the eye. This is what was recreated in the after picture.

MJ is in town!

Tonight has been very insightful i was able to capture some great momments at indiana. Overall the experince was different from elvis night as the audience were literally on the stage and getting their party on and personally it was very enjoyable to work with the worlds number 1 impersonator.

The performer was the worlds number 1 micheal jackson impersonator ‘Navi’ who even performed at MJs 50th birthday. Navi was a great show man and got the audience very excited. This time i had to have a faster shutter speed as the audiences were not posing they were now moving alot. It made it very difficult to capture clear images without motion blur.

The problem i faced was quite annoying at the same time asy to correct, the battry life was extremly low after i booked it out the loan shop. The battries kept dying as i had to use the flash to add light to compensate for the faster shutter speed. i could have also made use of some indoor lighting.

Over the course of the night the pictures were getting finest and the image were coming out clearer and more detailed. taking pictures at a restaruant where people are eating and ocassonally dancing was a major learning curve as i had never worked in a situation like this. This is one of the very few times i have been involved in phtography of this nature and has given me more confidence to get involved in similar projects to boost my skills in photography.  I feel overall i adapted well and achived the desired outcome myself and the owner anticipated.

Problem At The Station

There was a few problems the TV station had with the footage of the show as it was a little explicit for them. Shaka asked us to re edit the show so that it can pass the Quality Control at OHTV.

These are the emails we exchanged.

I hear Wedding Bells

Having made my family and friends familiar with the type of work I am involved in at university. They took the opportunity to use my expertise in photography to capture classic and meaningful images of the day’s events.

I arrived in London with my camera all suited and booted in navy. Once I  arrived at the brides house i asked her when she would like me to start taking the pictures. Since she was almost ready she asked me to go and take some pictures of the rest of the family until she came down.

I asked all her family members to get in line and one by one come and stand in front of the camera as I took there pictures. Once the bride was down from her room i sat her down and got her to sit on her own as i captured a few different pictures of her

I was able to use my initiative of working an Indian wedding event as I have previously attended these events and know how the process of the day goes. Once we arrived at the venue i came into my element and just captured what looked interesting, I like capturing natural images that capture the moment forever.

The day went on till the early hours but i had fun good thing I had a battery grip with 2 batteries. I met other wedding photographers and videographers at the wedding which gave me a few networking opportunities. One of the Videographer said i should speak to him when im back in London for a permanent job in the wedding industry.

The bride was very happy with her pictures and said she would recommend me to her friends how are soon getting married. The wedding scene is a very lucrative market but it highly over crowded and only the best can make it and make a name for their self’s. I feel that this kind of photographer helps a cinematographer as wedding shots have to be epic.
