Media Production Students Commended
A group of Level 2 Media Production students who spent the weekend filming The Russell Tribunal on Palestine were today commended for their professionalism and dedication by the Coordinator of the Tribunal, Frank Barat.
The eight students Darren Moore, Mick Le Mare, Abu Mukid, Alex Ciocan, Yasmin Muat, Laura Garwood, Sam Davies and Ebe Owusu spent the 21st-22nd November recording the testimonies of activists, lawyers and academics to the Tribunal that was hearing evidence about corporate complicity in Israel’s Human Rights Violations against Palestinians. At the event, which took place at the prestigious venue of the Law Society in London, they were able to get first hand experience on a live project. This included documenting the testimonies from speakers from the USA, Europe and the Middle East as well as one on one interviews with a number of the jury members such as Stéphane Hessel (Ambassador of France) Mairead Corrigan Maguire (Nobel Peace Laureate 1976, Northern Ireland) Ronald Kasrils (writer and activist, former Government Minister, South Africa) and Cynthia McKinney (former member of the US Congress and 2008 presidential candidate, Green Party, USA). Several of the students took the opportunity to develop links with jury members for further projects as well as connections with media organisations that were present at a press conference today at the offices of Amnesty International including PressTV, Al Jazeera, TF1 France and several radio stations.
Ken Fero, who organised the project as part of the MP Documentary Production module said: “It’s refreshing to see media productions students engage in such a high profile political event and to show immense motivation and commitment at this level. The students will now begin the process of editing and disseminating their media work”
Students also supported a live feed that broadcast the Tribunal on the Internet. Details of the Tribunal are at http://www.russelltribunalonpalestine.com/en
