Task 3 Critical Evaluation

This Task has helped me gain knowledge and visual presentation. What I have learnt can be used in professional roles in the media industry. This knowledge can easily be adapted by locations managers, looking for fresh locations to shoot on.

I chose to do this journey as it is a personal journey that I take on a regular basis and I would like to share it with the world. Smokers get a lot of slack from people. Why don’t people let them do what they want in peace? I dedicate this whole task to smokers and my grandfather’s who both lost there lives to cancer and smoking. I have a feeling I am going to exit in the same manner.

I knew from the start what I would like to be showing in my map. I done some spontaneous research and used personal experiences to find my locations and instantly take a picture with my phone. My locations were simple but to a person that smokes there are many factors that we need to take into account when we go out smoking. The route needs to be close by but not to short.

I had a Google account so I got started immediately on producing the map, I would come back and add photos and videos at a latter stage. The process is simple to grasp yet highly effective as it can be applied to many things. I drew lines from memory as I was familiar with my routes which meant I didn’t have to wait to go and take pictures first. I used the shape too to highlight some key locations in my map, this included the local Lloyds TSB bank. I also used place markers to show people these locations.

I used my current Youtube account to upload a video of my walk on a route, which I then embedded in to my map using HTML Code. It is very simple, just a matter of copy and paste. I had no problems to overcome. I finally embedded the map into WordPress which was also just a matter of copy and paste.

In conclusion, I found this task to be the simplest task out of the 3 we where set. I have used my current understanding of Google maps to create something that would reach a worldwide audience. However “weird” my idea is, I think it is an overall success as it does stick to the brief.

Task 3

Okay now, Task 3, I am going to do a journey I’ve made in the UK a few times, well a trip I make almost everyday; no it’s not walking to uni, It’s going for a smoke. I have designated smoking routes I like to use. I thought I’d make a GoogleMaps showing other smokers where they can enjoy a nice route to go for a smoke.

I started by re-tracing my steps and took a whole heap of pictures and a couple videos to include in my work. GoogleMaps is a very easy tool to use and master. I used this tool before being introduced to it by Mez for 112. I drew lines which represented my routes that I walked. There was also key locations such as Costcutter, that is open 24 7 365. This is great for a smoker as you practically never run out of fags. The bank and cash point are also located on my map, with out money there is no smoke. I marked each area with a different colour highlight. This helped distinguish each place on the map.

next I uploaded my pictures to WordPress, which I then used to link to My Maps. I uploaded a few pictures along my routes and these pictures are places on the maps in accurate locations.

Now it was time for video. I uploaded a video of me on my Youtube account. In this video I take one of my routes and smoke. I am pretty sure it ain’t conflicting with the brief.

So far I have done what the brief has asked of me. The next step it to embed this map into WordPress. The steps are fairly simple, all that is required is to grab the link HTML Code and past it in a post in WordPress.

Task 3 Almost Complete.

Journey Of The Smoker – Pics For Google Maps

These picture are used for my google maps production for task 3, i took them using my 5 megapixle camera phone, these pictures document my journey i take from time to time, where my eyes get red and things become funny. i smoke and i think the world knows.

my journey is not something that is common, i like to rebel and i would ideally live in an anarchic society where we do what we desire with out constant threat of persecution. my journey maybe related to many people as most smokers have there own smoking paths :D

Experimentation and Exploration:

For this picture in used ideas i have grown up with and this picture has personal relations. whilst growing up there was only two choices, just like the choices provided here. my life has been a constant fight between life paths and choices, i feel this picture expresses my feelings. where i am from in South London most young males are underachieving and are not qualified for skilled jobs so they are left with choices “when you have two choices, be a street sweeper or move dust on the street”  this quote from the above video helped me express this in the picture. Give cats the food is a term used by drug dealers referencing to making sales.

Sources: this pic was taken on a previous shoot and i discovered it on my hard drive and felt it would be the perfect picture to use.

Inspiration The inspiration for this piece is semi-autobiographical and how big money could be made. this pic is not of positive influence as it can promote greed. But who says your work have to be positive to get good feed back?

Process: i used photoshop to manipulate the colour’s, i used an green overlay to show the colour usually affiliated with money and herbal marijuana. The text was used to directly communicate with my target audience.  i am very happy with the overall outcome of this image, i have received very positive feed back from my peers.
