Ask Away, Answers Will Fly Back At You
Why are studios used to make programmes when tape is so cheap and available?
There is not one right answer for a question like this. Mainly to keep the uniformity of the blueprint. Being in a studio keep the program looking and feeling the same even if the content is changed. Keeping our views familiarised with the set allows us to keep them in our grasp and keep them at ease. Using a studio also allows for quick change if change is necessary as the set can easily be altered to the need of the day. Rendering an atmosphere is what is easily doable in a studio. A studio is also very professional and allows for quick mixing and editing which just isn’t possible on tape especially if you are live on air.
What are magazine programmes? Why do Audiences like Them?
TV programs that are rendered to showcase commentaries and interviews with VT’s. Magazine shows are either a general or specialist.
Specialist magazines have one topic of interest e.g. Top Gear with Cars and Match of the day with Football. These are filmed in a studio format and always focus on one topic. http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/

General magazines come in all different shapes and sizes, they have a broad range of topics which are picked to cater for the primary targeted audience, Programs such as the One Show consists of a whole host of articles which allows it to reach a high number of audiences and tap into the interest of these viewers.

Magazine Programs usually have celebrity presence making them even more desirable to the viewer’s eyes. Celebrity endorsement is highly used to give the show a better name. E.g Top Gear has a segment called, Star In A Reasonably Priced Car. We see a whole range of A-Z list celebrities who are put in cars that your average Joe can afford, therefore allowing us to relate to them for even just the 5 or so minutes they are shown. Audiences see these shows as easy TV and they can expect fresh content every show.
What are the limitations of magazine programmes? How can they be improved to ensure they continue?
Limitations can be overcome however some are just impossible, even if I’d like to believe they are not. Most limitations start to be clear when we come to pick the topics for the show, if the show is specialised, then the limitations come quicker. If it’s a general show then you have more to play with.
Continuity throughout a series can be hard to keep, and not being repetitive. The best way is to not use all your good ideas on one show. It is best to keep a catalogue of idea which you can latter call upon to help you on rainy days so to speak. It is important to keep in mind that you are always catering for an audience and keeping them occupied is you main objective. Having content which does not relate to you viewer, makes them loose interest in the show and even interest in the whole series.
Being a media producer you have to constantly think like your target whatever the project may be. Keeping your fan base is the most important thing in my eyes. Influencing your views thinking is also another key factor in production and allowing the viewer to sway towards your ideals via users and gratification allows you to succeed. Keeping up to date with content is highly important as old news isn’t good news.
Consider other sources of distribution for magazine type shows.
Distribution for magazine shows like ours is not impossible. Many platforms are available such as http://www.YouTube.com , Current TV and many other online platforms that allow user generated content that can be accessed globally. Feedback is instant in this day and age and market research is available at near no cost to the producers. We can also utilise new technology such as the Ipad and other mobile platforms which will allow us to broadcast to people on the move and practically anywhere with a signal. converging with other platforms will allow us to get our product across to more viewers. I have applied my knowledge gained from 112 MC.
Current TV is a great way to allow people to view your content, Professionals all over the globe utilise this space to broadcast their work and if it makes the grade Current TV pay for broadcasting online and on Satellite TV, Our show is not visually perfect but as the saying goes content is King.

Task 3 – Skills Video
This Is My Personal Piece:
In This video I chose to talk about how I use my equipment and how 2 pieces of equipment allow me to do my job in a proper manor. I wanted to keep the video looking unscripted and free this making the viewer feel like they were with me at the studio and feel at ease in the setting.
This Is a Group Piece:
This piece was made like a comedy piece but covers the basics of operating the cameras. we see that the video will allow the viewer to laugh this will allow them to feel at ease with the studio setting.
